Fun for the Fireside

“Fun for the Fireside” was a monthly column in Godey’s Lady Book and Magazine intended to gather families around the fireplace with recreation. Here, children are encouraged to play-act homemaking by making model furniture, such as this fireplace. Fireplaces in Merion acted in a similar yet subtle way to cultivate women’s domesticity through acts of socializing and decoration.
