The intitial campus plan “Diagram B” is approved. Addison Hutton completes first elevation drawings and plans for Cottage No. 1. Board of Trustees request a less expensive plan of “Cottage No. 1”
1883
The first Byn Mawr Circular is approved, naming Merion Hall “Cottage No. 1”
1885

Quaker Philanthropy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many of the Quakers who contributed to the founding of Bryn\u00a0Mawr\u00a0were involved in multiple philanthropic organizations and\u00a0movements intended to aid Indigenous peoples and formerly\u00a0enslaved men and women. Nevertheless, their\u00a0philanthropic\u00a0pursuits were often shaped by fundamental\u00a0principles of white superiority and a\u00a0Christian civilizing mission<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that\u00a0caused severe harm. Moreover, marginalized\u00a0communities were\u00a0just as active in mobilizing and\u00a0advocating for themselves, but\u00a0this\u00a0advocacy was sometimes ignored or devalued.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
